Jumbo wings at Mother Clucker’s
Jumbo Wings, a Neighborhood Bar, and Yes, the 69-Wing Situation
Jumbo wings live here for the same reason they live at the diner: people want them, and a scratch kitchen that already has a fryer should not pretend otherwise.
Five jumbo wings tossed in one of the sauces and dressing on the side. Garlic parmesan. BBQ. Buffalo. Sriracha honey. Fiery Hawaiian. Verde Assassin, which is not a personality quiz, although it will tell on you. Happy hour knocks three dollars off appetizers in the afternoon window. Confirm the board when you sit down. Boards move.
Then there is the 69-wing situation. It is a food challenge. It is on the calendar because someone was going to ask anyway. Sixty-nine jumbo whole wings, mixed sauces, dressing, an audience of whoever is at the bar, and the kind of decision you should not make on an empty dare from a group chat. If you finish it we will be impressed. If you do not finish it we will still box the rest like adults. I am not turning this paragraph into a bit. The number is already doing a bit.
Wings belong with a game on and a pint and someone missing a dart by a distance they will describe as "close." They also belong in a delivery bag next to a pie at 1 a.m. We do not make you pick a lifestyle.
If you want the rooftop version of this order, that is On the Rox at 1333, Wednesdays, when the Wing Fling is on. If you want the neighborhood-bar version, you are already on the right avenue.
